The Hobby Closet exists to answer one question well: how do I actually get started?

Most hobby writing online is either a thin listicle or a deep forum thread aimed at people who are already three years in. Neither helps on day one. Every hobby here gets the same structured treatment instead — what it really is, what it costs, what to buy first, what to do in your first month, and the mistakes almost every beginner makes.

How pages are organised

Every hobby page opens with an At a Glance panel: cost to start, difficulty, time commitment, space needed, physical intensity, and whether it works solo or needs other people. Those are browsable — you can find every beginner-friendly hobby, or everything you can start for free.

Below that sits the written guide, links to genuinely useful resources and communities, and gear recommendations where they help.

How we pick recommendations

We favour the cheapest thing that actually works. Where a more expensive option is genuinely worth it, we say why; where it is not, we say that too. Several guides here explicitly tell you to rent or borrow before buying.
